Brick Lane

At the end of last month I visited "Working Links" in Brick Lane - a really impressive organisation that works with ex-offenders and those who find it very difficult to find jobs, and by helping with training, support and tackling all the barriers to employment one by one actually get people into work, where they continue to support the employees. We also discussed the opportunities that will be available with the construction of the Olympics - but how are we going to train our people rather than just letting the contractors employ eager arrivals from the EU? This is a problem that working links are aiming to tackle by providing on the job and other training now, working with employers and potential employers to make sure that we train people with skills that help them find employment.

Ainsworth Nursery School, Bevington road

At the end of the term we celebrated with the children the continued transformation of Ainsworth Nursery School which will hopefully become Golborne Children's Centre. This is a nursery school that received an "excellent" from the Ofsted inspectors, and over the last 18 months has had a great deal of money spent from Sure Start and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea combining the buildings of Swinbrook Nursery and Ainsworth School in preparation for its transformation into a children's centre - a vital service in this very deprived part of north Kensington. Children can come for day care from age 3 and then progress up to the school, where they are well prepared for their transition to primary school. The buildings are light and airy, overlooking the playground, the equipment is new and the staff are very dedicated.

Crime

Having studied the crime reports for recent months I would urge you all most strongly not to leave your "SAT NAV" system in your car - even a SAT NAV bracket can tempt a thief to break in and rifle through your car, stealing at will. At this time of the year, do take any bags and shopping out of the car, or make sure it is well hidden in the boot, There are still letterbox thieves operating where they gain access to your house, by reaching through the letterbox to unlock bolts, retrieve keys and break in. Please have a safe and Happy Christmas. I shall be spending Christmas at home with my family and I wish you all a peaceful holiday.
