The next Mayoral elections will be in May 2008. Currently the political parties are selecting their candidates, Livingstone has confirmed that he will stand again, the Liberal Democrats are still to name their candidates and there may be some independent candidates yet to declare.
For choosing the Conservative Candidate - there will be open hustings meetings for you to listen and question the Conservative Party candidates. The initial plan is that these will be held the week of 10 - 15 September in four areas of London and the centre. As soon as we know the venues and full details we will put them on this website.
To vote for Victoria Borwick to become the official Conservative Party candidate you need to either:
Be a member of the Conservative Party - in which case you are automatically registered to receive a ballot paper/voting form in the first week of September. If your ballot paper does not arrive you will need to phone 0207 222 9000 ask to speak to the London Mayor election team. You will need to send in your completed ballot paper to arrive by 22nd September 2007. There is no charge to vote.
If you are not a member of the Conservative Party, but are on the electoral roll in Greater London, as of 1st July 2007, and you wish to vote, you need to call a premium rate number (this enables the Party to cover the costs of this voting process). You are registering to be sent a ballot paper/voting form. You will be sent your voting form to complete, which must be returned to arrive by 22nd September 2007. It is anticipated that, from a BT Landline, it will cost between £1.00 - £2.00 to register to receive the ballot paper, other operators and networks may vary.
The number to vote is 0906 555 5050 and the number is available between:
Monday to Friday 8.00am - 9.00pm Saturday 9.00am - 9.00pm Sunday 10.00am - 5.00pm
Voting - this will be the "Alternative Preference Vote / Single Transferable Vote" system: You will have four candidates to choose from, and you can rank them in order of preference. You do not need to vote for more than one person. Vote Victoria.
