More Taxes on Cars
Livingstone has already announced he wants a £25.00 a day congestion charge for “Chelsea Tractors” and the Lib Dems want to raise £8 billion from 'green taxes' to encourage environmentally friendly behaviour - including £2,000 annual car tax for 4x4s and £1,500 annual tax for family cars and new taxes on aviation which would see an end to cheap flights. Why do so many people want to reduce our freedom to travel and to choose how we travel? Having a car gives us as individuals the freedom to choose how we travel, and when and where we travel.
What do you think about this further tax on motorists?
Transport for London - making life difficult for shopkeepers - AGAIN
Shoppers are being fined for parking for more than three minutes in loading bays that permit 20 minutes (according to the signs). However since the CCTV cameras have gone up hundreds of drivers have been hit with fines because they have been seen away from their vehicles for more than 3 minutes. This is happening locally to shops in Kensington High Street - Leyland - a local builders merchant is suffering because customers waiting to collect items, or have paint mixed are in the shop and not waiting by their cars and vans. The wine merchant on the other side of the street is also suffering. Do you know any other local shops that are affected? Can we influence on Transport for London to keep to the 20 minutes on the sign for loading, and not penalise drivers after 3 minutes. When you challenge TfL on this policy, they say it is just up to the customers to explain why they received the fine. What's your experience with TfL?
Segways
After the holidays I come back to find that Segways are banned from the roads. I know several friends who have these, and they are real fans. It is quicker and much more fun than being stuck on London Transport. Vote Victoria for Mayor and we will have a system for Segway proficiency tests - like we have for bikes, and then Segway users can use them on the roads. If we have to invoke the Highway Act of 1835, to get Segways banned, then it is time we updated the rules! What's your view on segways?
